The 2019 Fatalist Pinot Noir makes a striking impression with lively aromas of cherry, rhubarb, cedar, cinnamon and oak spice. The palate is plump and juicy yet remarkably poised, boasting rounded flavors of strawberry, plum and black cherry with suggestions of blue fruits, vanilla and baking spice. An undercurrent of cool minerality adds length and allure to a soft, polished finish.

Vineyard Notes
The 2019 Fatalist Pinot Noir is a selection from four blocks featuring four distinct Pinot Noir clones: 115, 667, 777 and Pommard. These blocks are planted along an upper highland at an elevation of 550 feet. Here, persistent sun exposure ensures fully defined fruit flavors, while the Pacific Ocean—just 10 miles away—delivers daily cooling that maintains vital varietal acidity and structure. Rocky loam and limestone soils further imbue the fruit with classic Pinot Noir qualities. As a special selection from the best lots of the 2019 vintage, the 2019 Fatalist delivers the ultimate expression of Pinot Noir from the Brick Barn estate.
Winemaker Notes
The 2019 Fatalist Pinot Noir underwent extended aging for three years in 100 percent new French oak barrels to achieve optimal maturity and integration. The fruit was night harvested, destemmed and cold soaked for a gentle extraction of color and flavor. After fermentation, each lot was then aged in French oak barrels over a period of 20 months. At the 20-month mark, Winemaker Adrian Bolshoi created a special blend from the finest barrels of the vintage and reserved it for Fatalist treatment. This reserve blend was returned to a pair of French oak barrels for an additional 16 months of aging prior to bottling. These barrels featured medium-light toasting to ensure a notable yet seamless assimilation of oak influence. The result is a uniquely distinctive Pinot Noir of length, elegance and complexity.
