Vineyard Notes
The 35-acre Brick Barn estate vineyard lies just north of the Santa Ynez River in a largely unexplored winegrowing corridor near the city of Buellton in the western Santa Ynez Valley. In contrast to our regular Grenache Rosé made from early-pick grapes, this wine was made from riper Grenache fruit harvested at 26.5° Brix on October 31. This allowed for a luscious mouthfeel while retaining a balance of fresh acidity. The fruit for this wine comes from Clone 513 at Block 15 and Clone 362 at Block 16. These two blocks are planted to an upper highland at an elevation of 550 feet. Here, rocky loam and limestone soils impart excellent fruit intensity, while the elevated location allows for ample sun exposure balanced by cooling ocean breezes.
Winemaker Notes
The White Grenache Noir is a concept that unfolded in real time during the 2019 harvest. Originally intended as a potential blending component for our Grenache Rosé, this wine proved to be so light in color and so compelling on its own that Winemaker Adrian Bolshoi was inspired to craft it as a stand-alone wine. The fruit was night harvested and pressed immediately to achieve a light salmon hue. The juice was cold settled for three days, then racked and fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine was racked off the lees and cold aged for seven months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
Food Pairing Notes
This distinctive wine makes a fine match for light pasta dishes, turkey panini sandwiches, barbecued chicken, and candied walnut salad with pear and leafy greens.
