TASTING NOTES
The 2021 Vermentino from the Brick Barn estate bursts with vibrant aromas of peach, pineapple, floral citrus, and a touch of salted sea breeze. On the palate, the wine dazzles with lively flavors of stone fruit and Granny Smith apple, intertwined with subtle hints of fresh green herbs. Its fleshy texture carries through to a clean, refreshing finish, showcasing both energy and balance in every sip. This Vermentino exemplifies the unique potential of the Santa Ynez Valley, offering a wine that is both dynamic and complex, with a lively, yet smooth mouthfeel.
FOOD PAIRINGS
The bright and herbaceous flavors of the 2021 Vermentino make it an excellent match for:
*Crab cakes, where the wine's acidity complements the richness of the crab
*Gnocchi in pesto sauce, where the wine enhances the herbal notes of the pesto
*Artichoke pizza, balancing the wine's fruitiness with the earthy flavors of the artichoke
*Baked sole with lemon, which highlights the wine’s crisp finish and clean texture
WINEMAKING
To craft this expressive Vermentino, Winemaker Adrian Bolshoi harvested the grapes at night on October 7 to preserve the fresh aromas and flavors. The fruit was gently pressed, then cold settled for five days before being racked and cold fermented in stainless steel for 14 days. The wine was fermented with ES Floral yeast to enhance the natural floral qualities of the Vermentino grape. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 9 months—90% in stainless steel to retain the bright fruit character and delicate aromatics, while the remaining 10% was aged in neutral French oak barrels to add a subtle depth to the mouthfeel. The result is a wine that expresses the purity of Vermentino while showcasing a distinctly fresh Santa Barbara style.
