The 2022 Grenache Blanc presents bright aromas of peach, apricot, lime and herb with underlying accents of flint and light spice. Soft, luxurious textures envelope the palate with flavors of pear, melon, mineral and sea spray. The mouthfeel is perfectly weighted, finishing with silky elegance. A stunning vintage for Brick Barn Grenache Blanc.
The 35-acre Brick Barn estate vineyard lies just north of the Santa Ynez River in a largely unexplored winegrowing corridor near the city of Buellton in the western Santa Ynez Valley. Here, persistent sun exposure ensures ripe flavors, while the Pacific Ocean—just 10 miles away—delivers daily cooling that maintains fruit acidity and structure. Our Grenache Blanc is planted to Clone 141 in Block 2, a small 3.2-acre parcel situated in front of our winery. This block’s sandy riverbed soils foster vivid aromatics in our Grenache Blanc fruit, while the Pacific breezes help maintain fruit vibrancy right through full maturity. Tight 6x3 vine spacing ensures that yields are kept in check for the sake of natural flavor intensity.
Grenache Blanc is a late-ripening grape that enjoys an extended growing season amid our sandy soils and marine climate. The grapes were picked on November 8, 2022 after the harvest weather turned cool in October—creating a low-alcohol wine with dazzling fruit expression. After gentle pressing, the juice was cold settled, then racked off the lees and cold fermented in stainless steel for a period of 15 days. Winemaker Adrian Bolshoi chose the Aroma White yeast to accentuate the natural fruit profile. After fermentation, the wine was aged at 36 degrees for eight months to maintain the wine’s bright flavors and complex aromatics.
