Gold, 94 points, 2025 Sunset International Wine Competition

Tasting Notes
The 2022 Syrah opens with warm aromas of red cherry, plum, and baking spice, accented by subtle notes of dried herbs. On the palate, a jammy, sumptuous texture carries vibrant flavors of cherry, blueberry, cinnamon, and toasted oak. Hints of white pepper and mocha trail into a juicy, well-structured finish supported by plush tannins and lively acidity.

Food Pairings
This Syrah pairs beautifully with hearty, savory dishes such as:

  • Winter beef stew

  • Rosemary pork chops

  • Mushroom casserole

  • Grilled lamb with herbes de Provence

Estate Vineyard
Grown on the upper highlands of our 35-acre estate vineyard, the 2022 Syrah is a blend of Block 8 (Clone 1) and Block 14 (Clone 470). These blocks, planted at 550 feet elevation in rocky loam and limestone soils, offer ideal conditions for Rhône varietals. The proximity to the Pacific Ocean—just 10 miles away—provides cooling breezes that preserve acidity and structure, while daily sun exposure ensures rich, ripe flavors.

Winemaking
Grapes were harvested at night for optimal freshness, then destemmed and cold soaked for five days to extract color and flavor gently. Fermentation occurred in small open-top bins and tanks with daily punchdowns and pumpovers. In true Côte-Rôtie style, 10% Viognier was co-fermented with the Syrah to enhance aromatic lift and color. The wine was aged for 20 months in a mix of 90% French and 10% American oak barrels, with 40% new oak. French oak brought structure and elegance, while American oak added layers of vanilla and sweet spice.
